Scotties in the City – Farewell Weekend
Today I headed along to Bridgeton Bus Garage for the Scotties in the City Farewell Weekend. After seeing the colourful Scottie sculptures dotted around Glasgow over the summer, it was great to finally see so many of them together in one place.
Scotties in the City is a Maggie’s and Wild in Art project that brought 40 giant Scottie dog sculptures and 52 smaller Scotties to Glasgow. Each one has its own design, created by different artists, schools and community groups, making every Scottie completely different from the next. The trail has been a great way of getting people out exploring Glasgow while also raising awareness and funds for Maggie’s and the support they provide to people affected by cancer.
The Farewell Weekend at Bridgeton was a chance to see the whole pack together before the sculptures leave the city. Seeing all those different designs side by side was brilliant, and there was so much colour, detail and creativity to photograph.
For me, it was another excuse to take my camera out and photograph something a little different. I spent time wandering around the garage, looking at the Scotties from different angles and picking out the details that caught my eye. Having the sculptures surrounded by the old buses and the character of Bridgeton Bus Garage made the setting even more interesting.
